Early morning,
it’s dark and still,
The world’s noise silenced by
winter’s snowy chill.
Snow on pavements, roads, trees and
fields,
Everything suffering, everything
yields.
Trees, their limbs cold and white,
Bow in Easterly wind’s deadly
sight.
Blackbird, Blue Tit, Thrush and Jay
Urgently eating fat to
keep hunger at
bay.
The fox paws at the icy lake,
His thirst he would slake.
Now people emerge
out from
behind their doors
Community Spirit to the fore,
Spades and Shovels galore.
We’ll get this thawed.
Our small piece of world was
glowing clean, bright and white,
Until the Gritters churned it into
a building site.
Children’s snowmen gaily decorated
in scarves and hats
Parents secretly smile behind their
backs.
They know this weather will soon be
whacked.
It won’t be long before they’ll all
be disassembled and lying flat.
“Come in now kids, its getting dark
– you still have that homework to start”.
Evening is here, humans think they
did a good days work today, but,
They've forgotten old man Frost,
Jack that is,
He’s only just come out and he
going to play
I
hate this cold weather, isn't that a fact.
